About Counselling

Why choose Open door Counselling?

Open door is a relational integrative, explorative service.

Through conversation or creative tools we explore your story, this can bring to the open things which you’ve not thought about before

and helps you see them in a new light.

These tools might include, sand tray, drawing, writing, stones, looking at pictures, or another activity which we might discover to help you unpack your story.

Counselling is an excellent option for you to explore what is on your heart or mind.  It may be a current problem or concern, leading to anxiety, depression or struggling to cope with everyday life. Maybe you need to make a decision and need some expertise in looking at the whole picture clearly to be wise in your decision making.

Counselling also looks at trauma or past memories which might be holding you back in life. We will look at the things that have happened to you which have impacted how much you are able to enjoy life now. Spending time in counselling can untangle obstacles and enable you to break away from unfulfilling patterns. Repairing broken aspects of your life and understanding the difficulties we face. Enabling you to become stronger to make new lifestyle decisions for a more fulfilled and free life.

At Open door Counselling you can talk with a trained and experienced counsellor who will keep your words confidential and be completely non-judgemental. Your counsellor will not fix you, Counselling will give you space to talk, reflect and be equipped with tools to enable you to live life to its fullest.

There is no limit to how many sessions you can have, although a suggestion of at least 10 is recommended. Each session follows an agreed plan between you and the counsellor, following your needs and the suggestions of your counsellor.  Mostly the sessions will involve sitting and talking or listening.

Sometimes it may be useful to look at the theory behind what you are experiencing and to draw on the knowledge of experts in the field to help us.

Your first session will include looking at our contract together. It will also be a chance for your counsellor to get to know you and for you to voice what you’d like to bring to counselling. It is not possible for anyone to accompany you for counselling; this is your space.

Open door Counselling welcomes you to a custom designed comfortable space. With a sofa, cushions, blankets and even a brew if you’d like one. Our aim is for you to feel comfortable and safe, to talk about what’s on your mind and to have time out of everyday life to focus on yourself and your wellbeing.
